Feel Good Challenge#10

For our last major Feel Good Challenge, you are going to allow your past self to embrace your future self. We are constantly growing masterpieces, learning more about ourselves each day. It becomes necessary for us to reflect on where we've been with a non-critical eye, while gleefully appreciating the progress we've made and know we will continue to make (with full intention *_^)
This exercise will allow you to begin the process of embracing the whole you.

You'll Need:

Old pictures, Awards, Certificates
Paper
Pen
Old Home movies

Action:

Take some time to remember yourself in the past, during your growth phases. Look through old photos. Watch old home movies. Review past awards and certifications. How did it make you feel to win them? How have you arrived at this moment? You've surely dedicated your time to challenging yourself for personal enrichment and expansion. Are you ready for the continued fruits of your success? Are you willing to continue to grow? Do you accept that life is much based upon change?

Now take a look at your future creatively.Where will you be? Allow yourself success. Accept the new you that is emerging. What are you creating within yourself for future expression? What seeds are now blooming in your garden of intentions in your future-now?

When you're ready, take some time to write down any insights you've gained from this experience. Making the connection from the past, to the now, to the future, can grant you an interesting look into your patterns and how you operate. This wisdom can assist you a great deal when you're looking to find ways to motivate yourself, and maintain positive perspective.

Feel Good Challenge #9

Oftentimes the things we are hoping to attract into our lives can't come in, because we haven't done the internal cleaning necessary to make room for the newness. Without even realizing it, we may be holding onto old gripes that we do not even remember clinging to. Those gripes can weigh us down and inhabit too much room in our creative unconscious, possibly attracting the very things we do not want to have in our lives any longer.
This makes periodic releasing an extremely beneficial practice. Called 'Holistic Releasing' by some, the act of releasing old gripes, negative perspectives and energies willingly, is kind of the reverse affirmational way of creating plenty of freed up sacred space to welcome the blessings that are surely waiting to fill your dimension.

You'll Need:

Paper
Pen

Action:

Time to release the regrets and resentments holding you back to improve health on all levels and make way for the glorious new, that matches your goals. Take a moment to assess the areas you would consider problem spots in your path. Are there reoccuring issues that are irking you, and causing you to doubt your ability to remove them? Is there a trait within yourself you find it difficult to strengthen or remove? What are the conflicts in your life that you can identify, and would wish to heal?
Write them down in a list. Take your time with this. It doesn't have to be done overnight.
When you are quite ready write them out by filling them in the blank of the following sentence, then read it aloud:
"I willingly release _______________________ from my path and perceived negative regard."

Allow yourself to feel the anger or negative emotion, and then let it go. Let it be what it is, knowing you've released it and it will become positive energy in its new state of freedom. You can keep your release list(s) to look back on when you wish to reflect on the progress you're making in embracing your life with the intention of feeling good.

Feel Good Challenge#8

There is nothing like gratitude when you find yourself in a grey place. Counting our blessings can do wonders for our spirits, by reminding us of the beauty in that is already in the world, and allowing us to step away from the pull of desires we may be dwelling on, or problems we are allowing to take over too much mental terrain in our minds.

You'll Need:

Pen
Paper
or a blank page book to create a Gratitude book for you and the whole family.

Action:
This challenge is easy and ongoing.
Start a list of of sentences going down the page with the following statement:
"I feel good because...".
As you fill out your list, end the statement with: "... and I am thankful".

You can also include pictures of things you are grateful for, and surround them with doodles of hearts, stars or other positive symbols. Create journal passages of gratitude examples, prayers, meditations and other things that support your gratitude practice.

Feel Good Challenge #7

When was the last time you looked in the mirror and wooed yourself lovingly?
We can often get caught up in the habit of being hyper critical of ourselves; picking and poking at our faces, and bodies with a frown, easily forgetting how to recognize our own beauty, perhaps even making the mistake of looking for approval of our beauty through others. Taking the time to do the opposite can have measurable effects on your self-esteem, especially because the good approval you'll be receiving will be coming from one of the most important sources: you.

You'll Need:

A blown up faceshot or full body picture of yourself
Collage cut-outs or stickers of positive symbols like suns, stars, hearts, flowers, butterflies and etc
Gluestick (if needed)

Action:

You're going to take a picture of yourself that is large enough to sustain decoration (or self-illustrated if you wish) and adorn it with symbols of beauty. You can even draw in symbols, and use color to enhance your beauty consciousness and have a bunch of fun with the expressive possibilities.

When you are quite satisfied with your adornment exercise, hang the picture up in a sacred place, or keep it in your journal to return to as a reminder and affirmation of your beauty and self-love.

Feel Good Challenge #6

Everything in existence finds natural harmony in its environment. We all resonate with certain vibrations, and when we surround ourselves with harmonious vibrations we are better for it.

Identifying your harmony tools (colors, and etc--- to use in color bath therapy and etc)

You'll Need:

Various pictures
Items like shells, acorns and other 'good luck' charms

Action:

Take some time to note your reactions to the colors of the rainbow.
Which colors are your favorites? Which do you have strong dislike for.
Which seem to bring you extra luck? Ask these questions of other symbols and items, and in doing so create a list of associations that are in harmony with you. Once the list is made to can begin the practice of collecting them into a special treasure box. When you are in need of the energies or a reminder that you have an at=oneness with other aspects of creation you can take them out to meditate with or carry with you. You can add to list and box at anytime.

Feel Good Challenge #5

Balancing our feminine and masculine sides is essential to our balance and ability to function within healthy relationships.
With this exercise you are going to engage in positive mythwriting for the inner man and woman. Spinning a positive fairytale with a happy ending can make all the difference in how you shape your perspectives of anything holding female and male traits.
Society has been working on mending the divide created between the female and male consciousness by misinterpreted notions of superiority and inferiority.

You'll need:

Your imagination
(opt'l) Pictures of very happy people (both male and female- all ages)
Paper
Crayons, pencil or pen (whichever you prefer)

Action:
Create a collage, illustration, text story or combination of these that includes a Female and Male overcoming an illusion of separation to find a beautiful union with one another. Remember that both of them should be whole within themselves, finding the addition of union between them to be a wonderful complement. The union of these beautiful opposites represents your inner realm female and male "sides". We usually unconsciously attract someone to 'act-out' our beliefs about relationships by taking on one of these sides. By rewriting the script, we invite positive and affirming relationship partners.

Once created either hang the collage, or read the text at least once a month. You can also blog your myth as well so others can benefit from the positive archetypes.

DIY Saving Seeds From Your Dishes For Other Uses

Squash is a fall and winter vegetable that has strong nutritional benefits. When preparing squash, however, don't toss the seeds. The seeds can be used for propagating new squash plants, or can be roasted or dehydrated for a healthy snack all winter long. Squash seeds are full of fiber and are also a fun project for kids to prepare and dry.

DIY Canning Butter

Caution should always be exercised with canning. The following video is offered as an inspiration of the many things you can do at home.

Pumpkins are a little known miracle food.

Pumpkin is not your average food. High in iron, full of vitamins, minerals anti-oxidants and even fiber, Pumpkin is one of the few vegetables allowed during the Atkins induction phase. Part of the squash family, Pumpkin seed can be used in any Winter squash recipe, being part of the same family as squash and cucumber. You can even roast it without opening it, on 350 degrees in your oven by poking holes in it to let the steam out. It will cook perfectly.

Pumpkin can keep for 6 months whole. Store them in a cool place (50-60 degrees) with newspaper beneath them when they aren't opened. Once opened though, you should use the pumpkin within a couple of days or so, as it can begin to decompose quickly. Once cooked it will usually keep for 4-5 days in the fridge. Dehydrated or canned, you can get a year or more out of pumpkin.

For seeds you can dry them on paper towels, oil them and salt/season them a bit if you prefer, and slow roast them at 250 degrees until the scent is right. This process is usually not more demanding then 45 minutes to an hour, when you stir them every 15 minutes for evenly dispersed roasting.
The Seeds can also be used to make milk, by soaking the seeds in 5 cups water and then blending the entire mixture until milky, adding agave or other desired flavoring touches as desired, then straining the pulp out. The pulp can be used a pate if desired, and the milk itself can be blended (like most non-dairy milks) with oil to make cream, or butter (butter comes with lots of blending).

Starting pumpkin seeds off (guesstimating 1 cup of pumpkin seeds and a 1/2 cup water) with less water will make a thicker cream instead of a milk if you do not wish to emulsify with oil. Adding 3-4 tbs of agar-agar to heated pumpkin milk until it dissolves will help you to make a hard cheese (though adding lemon juice, garlic powder, and onion powder to taste is recommended for cheesy flavor). Some raw foodists ferment the creamed versions of nut milks (without oil) of the milk as cheese over the course of 2-3 days in a lightly colored pan after simmering milk to rid of potentially harmful bacteria. It could work with seed milk.

A quicker way to roast pumpkin seeds

Pumpkin's color communicates its beta-carotene benefit right from first sight. It's full of
Vitamin A, Protein, Alpha and Beta Carotenes, antioxidant carotenoids, Zinc, copper, Manganese, Phosporous, Amino Acid L-Tryptophan, Vitamins C, K and E, iron as mentioned, fiber, minerals as mentioned, potassium, effective carbohydrates, and magnesium. In short, this vegetable is a powerhouse of goodness. The seeds, called Pepitas are abundant with minerals as well as what some say is an anti-inflammatory effect. It has also been said it can protect against prostate cancer and osteoporosis.

The heavier sizes are great for cooking (2 to 5 pounds is a good range- when they are too big they are not as suitable), while light sized pumpkins are drier with more open space in their middles.

This Fall, you can share some of those interesting facts with your social circle, as many have no idea pumpkin can be used for more than pie and seeds.

Some folks even make boats out of the giant ones ^_^

The efficiency of the Acai Berry

Called one of the most nutritious superfoods and powerful foods in the world by Dr. Perricone,
Acai has fast become the ingredients to look for in smoothies, and prepackaged drinks. A Brazilian import, the acai berry tastes like berries and chocolate, and bursts with high energy. The unsweetened pulp version of the fruit is the preferable form to purchase. You can find it in most natural food stores. The benefits of Acai are numerous. They include; combatting premature aging with antioxidants (Acai has 10 times more antioxidants than grapes), a near perfect amino acid complex with valuable minerals necessary for proper muscle regeneration and health, as well as the support of cardiovascular health and digestive balance with 'good' fats, phytosterols, and dietary fiber.

The Value Of Sleep

Proper rest regulates weight, undoes depression, and keeps heart disease at bay. But if you're like most people, sleep is probably considered more of a luxury than a necessity. You may, like many others, sacrifice the time your body and mind need to replenish themselves, to get just a bit of extra work done here and there, but at what cost?

Lack of sleep can cause mood disturbances, increase pain, and even increase your risk of developing diabetes.A poll in 2007 conducted by the National Sleep Foundation found that 60 percent of American women get a sufficient night's rest only a few times per week or less, though 8 hours of sleep per night is essential for maximum health.

So how do we get back on track?
Better diet, and remodeling your habits are two surefire ways to re-acclimate your body and mind to operating on a full night of sleep. Habits take 21 days to become set into one's mind. Keeping this in mind, you can create a schedule for yourself that involves better management of time that strictly calls lights out at a non-negotiable time for at least a month to allow the pattern to establish itself in your nightly routine.

Set your alarm to go off an hour before your designated bedtime as a cue that you have an hour to get there.

Wind down during that hour after taking care of any last minute house duties, and/or hygienic rituals.

Your body begins to prepare itself for sleep well in advance of your awareness by producing the sleep chemical adenosine, while you're still awake. When you don't get enough sleep, the adenosine stays with you, keeping you drowsy. Some say this is a building of 'sleep debt'.
When the sun sets, your eyes take notice, and the body cues the pineal gland when it gets the signal from your eyes that light is dimming, at which point it secretes melatonin, to increase drowsiness.

Drowsiness can be overcome however, by a willful person intent on finishing up that last report for the following morning, or staying up to watch syndicated sitcoms to catch up on entertainment missed during the day. In cases where one finds themselves very undisciplined or plagued by thought to the extent that they can't relax into sleep, there are natural alternatives.
Natural sleep aids like Melatonin, or Valerian root can assist you in getting your required amount of sleep, as can the aroma-therapeutic benefits of Lavender, when sprayed upon a pillow, or added to a diffuser.

Feel Good Challenge #4

Compiling affirmations helps us to get back in touch with the part of us that dreams vividly, and has access to a neverending pool of hope: Our innerchild. Society has told us to stuff the child within down, and grow up, but how well does that really work for us? Creativity is natural.
It is time for everyone to come out of stifling the one gift that makes all of us unique. Our ability to express our view.

You'll Need:

Innerchild tools of your choice (clay, glue, paper, crayons, pen, stickers, glitter, etc)
Goodies for guilt-free munching (PBJ, Green Banana Smoothies, etc)

Action:

It's playtime. Allow yourself to create right now, without judgment. Color. Glue. Sculpt. Reconnect with the part of you that knows the value of wonder, and expression of perspective. Draw a picture of the tree in your front yard. Doodle and find symbols in your doodles for personal insight. If you find yourself drawing flowers, notice whether they are blooms or buds. What do they tell you about your own process. If you notice alot of stars in your art, consider that your subconscious may see much brightness ahead in your path. It may be your time to shine.

When you've finished your innerchild session, take some time to write down any insights you may have gained through the process.

The Mighty? Mangosteen

Mangosteen may not have survived America's first attempts to have the 18 foot high trees that grow in Africa, flourish in the states (the only tree that bloomed bore one fruit that died fairly quickly), but that doesn't stop industry from attempting to bring its benefits to US customers. Entire wild forests of the fruit can be found in Malaya, and the fruit is also found in the Caribbean and Central America.
There a decent number of skeptics however, who feel that something claimed to be so versatile and tasting as good as Mangosteen does, might not be very effective, despite reports that Mangosteen is anti-depressant, anti-leukemic, anti-microbial (fungus and bacteria), and also anti-viral.

Mangosteen is said to contain over 40 xanthones (biologically active plant phenols identified in select tropical plants) identified in the rind, which places the fruit in the category of one of the fruits with the highest xanthone content, according to Xango.com (a major distributor of the Mangosteen juice product). They claim also that only 6 xanthones have been studied in depth (fully ripe fruits are said to contain xanthones, gartanin, 8-desoxygartanin, and normangoston and a derivative of mangostin that is a central nervous system depressant, causing a blood pressure rise).

In eastern countries the rind is sliced and dried into a powder to overcome dysentery. It is also made into an ointment that is applied to eczema and other disorders of the skin. The decoction of the rind is taken to relieve diahrrea and cystitis, gleet, and gonorrhea applied as an astringent. Steeped in water overnight it is a remedy for chronic diahrrea in both adults and children.

In the Phillipines a decoction of the leaves and bark is used to treat thrush, diahrrea, dysentery, and disorders of the urinary tract. An infusion of the leaves with an unripe banana and a bit of benzoin is applied in Malay to the wound of circumcision. As a root decoction it's taken to regulate menstruation.

In the end it may be too early to tell if Mangosteen is the superfruit juice ingredient Xango claims it to be, but it is surely a gem in the world of folk medicine.

Acerola: The Barbados Cherry

Eaten like grapes in the Caribbean by many who grow it at home, Acerola is a potent immune system booster that isn't as easy to obtain in the US as it is in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, and the West Indies. With the prevention of heart disease as one of its benefits, Acerola is also reputed to be a powerful protection against cancer. This powerhouse fruit contains 32 times the amount of Vitamin C in orange juice (which is over 3000% as much), and the green fruits have twice as much the amount of Vitamin C as mature fruits.

One Acerola berry alone has more than 100 percent of the required daily amount of Vitamin C. Naturally, this has made Acerola a popular health supplement as well as cosmetic ingredient, due to its antioxidant activity. In addition to this, it keeps for months, though one should be wary when heating the berries for jams and other recipes, as the Vitamin C content is reduced through the heating process. The benefits of the seeds have not yet been studied.

Why you need more Fiber in your life.

Fiber's health benefits are essential to balanced functioning in elimination systems, which ultimately means better skin, vital energy flow, and a less toxic physical system as direct benefits of making sure we're receiving enough of it in our lives.

The direct benefits are the relief of constipation, disease prevention, and balanced body weight.
When we're eliminating materials are body considers to be toxic or useless to our body, we feel lighter, and digest our nutrients more easily. Many people don't digest the amount of nutrients that come from their food that they should, because their colons are compromised and cannot perform efficiently due to backed up toxins and intestinal plague buildup.

Fiber absorbs water in large amounts making waste easier to pass, to the extent that adding fiber to one's diet can eliminate constipation in as early as a few hours up to a few days.

You can find insoluble fiber ( doesn't dissolve in water) in nuts, bran , vegetables, wheat and whole grains. Soluble fiber which dissolves in water, is found in citrus fruits, apples, oats, beans, and barley. Soluble fiber is said to reduce cholesterol. It can eliminate health concerns like Heart disease, Cancer, Diabetes, Diverticular disease, as well as Gallstones and Kidney Stones.

The recommended amount of fiber intake, in general is 25g for women and 38g for men under 50, while it is 21 grams for women and 30 grams for men over 50. You can accomplish some of that intake by including oatmeal, Bran muffins, Fruits, Fruits, and Breads.

Feel Good Challenge #3

Now that you've identified your unique qualities, and have begun or completed a wish collage identifying your needs and wants you can begin to work on wording your needs and wants in the present tense to form something very useful to programming a healthy feel good perspective: affirmations.

To receive good you have to resonate with good. You must feel it and vibrate good energy to receive like energy. Our moods are an indicator of our thought process (both conscious and unconscious). The thought forms that are more deeply embedded are called belief systems. They act as a foundation and reference point for the experiences we take in. Because they are formed in early in life, our youth-based perspectives may be hung up on old pains and misunderstood reactions from others that we interpreted as reason to view ourselves poorly and expect others to as well.

Changing our thoughtforms becomes essential to healthy self-image if we have developed a poor self image up to this point. Reprogramming our thoughtforms is effectively done on a visual and intellectual level. With this exercise you will focus on the word-based method of thoughtform reprogramming by making phrases in the present tense that state to your unconscious self that you already have all that you need and want. The present tense is important because the unconscious mind does not understand negative statements like 'I don't', or 'It is not'. The unconscious mind takes things quite literally, so stating 'I want...' will affirm that you intend to stay in a state of want. Stating 'I have...', 'I am...', or even 'I am manifesting my goal of...' opens the door to your unconscious mind, a magnet, creating the vibration you need to step into your desired reality.

You'll need:

A list of goals
Pen&Paper or other writing mediums

Action:

Take your list of goals and begin to change them to positive statements formed in the present tense.
ie. Let's say you wrote this down on your list of goals: I want to have a really reliable electric car that will last a long time for me. That statement would become : I have a really reliable car that lasts a very long time for me and is extremely reliable.

Make the list of affirmations in the present tense including all of the goals in affirmation form.
It is a good idea to make this attractive so you will want to revisit it. Maybe include a few images glued onto the paper you use for your affirmation list, that you love.

Next, read the affirmations ten times each to kick start a 21 day process of reading them at least once every day for 21 days or more. It takes 21 days to create a habit. Getting into the habit of telling yourself positive things, and seeing yourself achieving your goals is a priceless habit to acquire.

Please share you experiences in the comments with other challenge participants.

Considering Ethical Eating?

Considering Ethical eating but worried you won't be able to enjoy anything that has solid flavor?
Worry not. Veganism now has every convenience food available either though home recipe or through online sites like veganstore.com or CosmosVeganshoppe.com

It is fully possible to enjoy meat-like sandwiches, cheese that tastes and melts like cheese, vegan mayonnaise that's actually better than Hellman's (vegenaise), marshmallows, whipped cream, vegan butter identical to dairy butter in taste, cream cheese, and sour cream.

Dixie Diner, Tofutti, and Turtle farms (Vegenaise and Follow your Heart Cheese)
are just a few of the brands making it possible to eat ethically without missing anything, and vegan baking can be done effectively replacing a tsp of cornstarch for each egg a recipe requires, and using oil in place of butter. Vegan milk (soy milk, rice milk nut milk) can also be made at home, and recipes for pastries, empanadas, tarts, pies, and etc all come off without a hitch with no sacrifice whatsoever to flavor. Non-Ethical eaters won't know the difference but they will be healthier for at least that meal, in mind, body, and soul.

Take a peek at some of the food recipes you won't be missing out on:

Vegan Cheesecake

Vegan Mayonaisse recipe (Like Vegenaise)

Vegan Cheese Sauce (add garlic and salt to taste with onion powder to make it pop)

Vegan Cream Cheese/Sour Cream
(Use without sweetener to make sour cream---incl. lemon/onion to taste)

Vegan Milk (almond)

Vegan Cookies/Cake
(convert into a cake recipe by adding more oil and wet ingredients- Baking soda and a bit of salt can always stand in for baking powder)

Veggie Burger (Black Bean)

Try something easy if you're very new to Ethical eating:

Make some Chocolate Chip Cookies

Feel Good Challenge #2

Now that you're partway through the process of establishing why you're special beautiful and unique, it's time to get in touch with your wants and needs. Knowing these clearly can make all the difference in the world to how you feel about yourself, hence:

The Wish Collage

The Wish collage can be a series of words, images or a combination of both.
You can utilize images you print from the internet, cut from magazines, and the same with text.
The wish collage will become your constant reminder of one important truth:

You can only be driven when you have a goal to rev up for. Your motivation is tied into your ability to identify what you want, while allowing yourself to get close enough to ascertain it in a healthy way.

You will need:
A paper large enough to use as a sign when the collage is complete
Old magazine, printed images, and sketches of your own (if you desire)
Glue (You can find cruelty-free glue here: Wellbond Glue

Action:

Over the course of a week to a month (or longer if you wish), collect images that resonate with your sense of aesthetics. Compile images that make you feel good and represent your goals. Beautiful food. Happy Loving people. Green ecologically efficient and attractive vehicles. Add the images little by little to the paper. You can cut out buzz words that you have an immediate positive reaction to, and include them on the poster board. Overtime the collage will begin to take shape. When you are ready, hang it on the well, and continue to fill it in little by little.
Subliminally this sends the message that as you add your wants and needs to the collage, you are completing your current experience.

When the collage is finished you can preserve it with glaze.
Look upon it daily. It will speak to your subconscious mind in deep ways you are not aware of.

Please feel free to share your experience with this challenge.

Should I Add Ginger To My Juiced Drinks?

Ginger can certainly add some benefits to your juiced drinks, most especially if you're seeking to reduce headaches, menstrual symptoms, and nauseau of various types. It is a 'hot' spice, and therefore holds the 'yang' qualities some seek to balance their systems. It promotes healthy detoxifying sweating and can boost the immune system, and is a good source of copper, manganese, potassium, magnesium, and vitamin B6. It stores well in fresh form for at least three weeks and can be used in dried form for at least a year.

Ginger's other benefits range from easing effects on pregnancy related sickness, after surgery nausea, motion sickness, and chemotherapy. It has been proven over placebo effects in double-blind studies to reduce symptoms connected to motion sickness. It can be used for heart disease, cancer, and is also useful in easing symptoms associated with inflammatory conditions like arthritis.

The active components of Ginger that are most significant are volatile oils and strong phenol compounds like anti-inflammatory gingerols (also known to counteract and inhibit growth in colo-rectal cancer cells) and shogaols, which has caused it to be used widely in powder form, and fresh form alike. Healthcare professionals often recommend it for mild stomach upset like vomiting and nausea. It is considered safer than medications that reduce nausea, and has fewer, if any side effects causing it to be the most often reached for solution. It reduces the severity and duration of nausea, but does not necessarily effect vomiting in the same way during chemotherapy.

It should not be used by children under two years of age, but can be used by children over two years of age for digestive cramping, headaches, and nausea. Be sure the dose is appropriate to the size of the child. A child of 50 lbs would benefit from a dose that is 1/3 of an adult dose of the average weight (150 lbs). The standard dose is 75- 2,000 mg in divided doses added to food or 2-4 grams of fresh ginger root per day. 1 gram of powdered ginger (a 1/2 tsp) can be taken every four hours as needed to relieve nausea, arthritis pain (can also be applied topically), cold and/or flu symptoms as well as sore throat, menstrual cramping, and headache (shredded ginger 2-3 times daily in hot water or 2 or 3 drops of ginger oil in hot water).

Side effects are not common with Ginger, but in the rare instances where they do arise they often manifest as heartburn , belching, and ironically mild stomach upset. These usually take place when too much Ginger has been ingested, so be sure to keep the 4 grams or less restriction of ginger per day. If you have gallstones, do not ingest ginger without speaking to a naturopath/homeopath or other medically trained professional. Be sure you let physicians know if you are taking ginger and will also be using anesthesia. Speak to a naturopath before taking ginger if you are on blood-thinning medications as well.

Herbs are well known for strengthening the body but it's important to research them to be sure they don't have negative interactions with any other foods or drugs you may be ingesting. Many resources are available on the web that can aid your search, including FruttiKrem (we intend to continue to add herbs, and food benefits along with warnings through our blog). It is also advisable to contact a naturopath/homeopath for advice if you plan to mix herbs or add them to your diet for prolonged use.

Healthier Nails

Nails reveal a great deal about our personality and our health. Composed of Keratin (a protein) and minerals, nails protect our fingertips, and rely on the supplies of protein, B vitamins, vitamin A, Calcium, Zinc, Iron and Iodine we take in. Without proper nutrients nails will communicate deficiencies on the surface. Deficiencies can take place because we are not keeping nourishing diets, or because our bodies may have difficulty assimilating nutrients. Glandular issues such as hyper-thyroidism can contribute to unhealthy nails that are either too soft, dry and brittle, spotted, ingrown, stricken with fungus or more.

Feel Good Challenge#1

As part of an ongoing effort to share inspiring actions that fuel vitality, FruttiKrem will be offering new challenge and feedback features. These challenges may include two day detoxes, all-fruit skincare regimens, personal assessment days, affirmation programs to reshape positive perception, and similar.

Our first challenge is simple:

Why I'm Special.

You'll need:

A Journal or FruttiKrem workbook (not yet released)
15 minutes a day of your time for two-four weeks
A calendar to keep track of action days (opt'l)

Action:

For 15 minutes a day over the course of 14 days, you will take time to write out different things that set you apart from the rest. This action is non-competitive. Anything you do is already unique because there is only one you. The benefit of this action is that you will begin the process of reacquainting yourself with yourself.

When the fourteen days pass, take an optional 14 additional days to read from your writings each day, in preparation for the next challenge.

Why is this a challenge, you ask? It is simultaneously a discipline tester and builder. It also requires you to break past any barriers you may have that involve looking at yourself objectively, by siting your characteristics and evidence of where these characteristics play out. The advantages to this challenge exercise are immense because we often forget how individual we are, and how much important that makes us to the world collective. Once we begin the process of seeing our value, our motivation to increase our vitality takes on massive growth.

Please share your feedback about the challenge and talk with other challenge participants in the comments.

The Raw Food Pyramid

Some nutrition experts tout the benefits of a Raw Food Diet for improved digestion, supported aging, and curative effects on pre-existing ailments. Converting even a small percentage of your diet to raw food can make a measurable difference in your vitality levels. Substituting 1 or even 2 meals a day for a fortified smoothie, or juiced drinks can improve your health dramatically. You can even use a dehydrator on a small circle of dough to create your own wraps for raw food elements such as onions, cucumbers, carrots, hummus, coconut oil and other preferred raw ingredients. The same can be done with pizza dough for raw food pizza. There are an amazing amount of selections for your designated raw food meal of the day available via:

High Energy Foods

In today's current fast-paced environment, people often find it a challenge to remember to adequately nourish their body, no doubt considering the preparation of certain high energy foods, a drag. But in reality, it is just as easy to grab foods that will do you a service, as it is to grab foods that will make it difficult for your body to function at its optimum level. The only real time requirement is the time it will take to write out a grocery list that includes the high energy foods you will need to have access to throughout the day. It all boils down to energy, and whether you have at least an adequate amount, or are lacking the energy your body needs to do its job. Low moods and emotional depression have strong ties to poor diet. Before looking to anything else, nutrition is the first place to start, when seeking to get back into balance.

We've compiled a short list of easily accessible foods that you can incorporate into your diet to boost your overall vitality and keep your energy levels where they should be throughout the day:

Soy Nuts:
These nuts are high in Omega 3 fatty acids, which aid the circulatory system and hence bloodflow. Awareness and agility are increased when soy nuts are taken in, and mood can even be uplifted as soy is sited as a depression fighter.

Berry Cup:
A cup of berries may be the answer to your high energy needs. Berries are chock full of anti-oxidants and have high water content. They will keep you hydrated, which will increase your energy level.

Peanut Butter:
Peanut Butter is high in protein but it also contains Tyrosine, an amino acid that you helps concentrate.

Watermelon:
Watermelon is a delicious fatigue fighter because it contains Iron, Potassium, Lycopene, and Vitamin C while also containing the hydrating titan: water. Hydration gives the body's cells greater hydration, which increases energy levels.

Pumpkin Seeds:

400mg of magnesium can decrease fatigue by 89%. Fortunately a 2.5 oz bag of pumpkin seeds can provide just that amount. Magnesium converts the foods you take in, into energy, and the iron in pumpkin seeds provides oxygen to cells, which also creates a high energy physical environment for your lifeforce.

For Those Looking To Properly Mix Raw Foods

Click the image for a larger version of the chart.
Converting your diet to even a small percentage of raw food can make a tremendous difference in how your system energizes itself and rids itself of toxins.

Replacing breakfast with a daily shake filled with fruits and vegetables (fruits will cancel out the taste of the vegetables if they are added in larger measure) can make a major difference in how you feel for the rest of the day, as well as how your digestive system assimilates nutrients in service of your vitality and overall health.

Very Important Labels: Fair Trade

The label above tells you that the products bearing it, are traded fairly.
Oftentimes items that aren't fairly traded severely cheat third world farmers, with practices that are often little better than modern-day slavery.

Whole Foods houses many fair trade items, and there are many other ethical merchants doing the same.
Your can find more information here:

http://www.fairtradefederation.org/
http://www.transfairusa.org/

The more we make sure our sugar, chocolate, coffee, and other staples are fairly traded, the sooner it will become so commonplace no one will have to worry about the "little Guy" having rightful earnings taken.

The Amazing Properties Of Pomegranate

The pomegranate's origin spans from Iran to The Himalayas of North India. It has been widely used in India and some parts of Asia, such as Tropical Africa, Malaya, and the East Indies. In the US it is grown in California and Arizona.

Being an ancient fruit high in rich cell damage preventing anti-oxidants, heart disease prevention benefits, skin support, and even prostate cancer inhibitors, Pomegranate's benefits warrant a triple take. It improves speedy healing of wounds and damage to the skin in general, including damage from the sun, aging, and other environmental factors. The retardation of aging that pomegranate is purported to provide comes in some part from fibroblasts, which maintain the matrix in animal tissue as producers of elastin and collagen (which provide skin support- and cause the skin to sag and wrinkle when broken down). Topical applications of oil, mashed pomegranate (mashed or blended at home as a mask), or its pure juice as a tonic can easily prevent the breakdown of fibers, fortify the skin by thickening (the epidermis and dermis), and even reduce the beginnings of some forms of skin cancer.

Why Wheatgrass?

Wheatgrass is part of the common wheat plant used often after its properties are liquefied through a juicer, or dried into a powder. It contains chlorophyll, amino acids, minerals, enzymes and vitamins. Many have called it a complete food in and of itself. Its curative properties have been applauded by many who have spread the word and increased interest in the phenomenon of adding wheatgrass shots to drinks, or taking them as a pure shot. Though available at most juicerbars in one form or another, it can also be grown and juiced at home.
Wheatgrass is said to have a bitter taste if there is an imbalance in the person consuming it, but overtime, wheatgrass consumers say the bitter taste becomes a sweet taste.
It is also said that 1 ounce of wheatgrass is the equivalent of 1kg of green vegetables. It is an aid for improving digestion, curing constipation, detoxifying heavy metals from the blood, preventing cancer, promoting general well-being, and helping to ease menopause, in addition to preventing diabetes and heart diease.

Cultivation & Usage
(From Wikipedia)

Schnabel's research was conducted with wheatgrass grown outdoors in Kansas. His wheatgrass required 200 days of slow growth, through the winter and early spring, when it was harvested at the jointing or reproductive stage. It was at this stage that the plant reached its peak nutritional potential; after jointing, concentrations of chlorophyll, protein, and vitamin decline sharply. [1] Harvested grass was dehydrated and made into powders and tablets for human and animal consumption. Wheatgrass grown indoors in trays for ten days contains similar nutritional content. Wheatgrass grown outdoors is harvested, dehydrated at a low temperature and sold in tablet and powdered forms. Wheat grass juice powder (fresh squeezed with the water removed) is also available either spray-dried or freeze-dried.

The average dosage taken by consumers of wheatgrass is 3.5 grams (powder or tablets). Some also have a fresh-squeezed 30 ml shot once daily or for more therapeutic benefits a higher dose up to 2–4 oz taken 1-3 times per day on an empty stomach and before meals. For detoxification, some users may increase their intake to 3–4 times per day. It should be noted that consumers with a poor diet may experience nausea on high dosages of wheatgrass. Outdoor wheatgrass is harvested for a few days each year from plants grown in the "bread basket" regions of the US and Canada. Winter wheat requires more than 200 days of slow growth in cold temperatures to reach the peak nutritional content. Even after that length of time, the plant is only 7 to 10 inches high.
